there are three steps involved in aerobic respiration.

glycosis , (takes place in cytoplasm )

intermediate (takes place in mitochondria )

kerbs cycle (takes place in mitochondria )

here 38 atps is formed out of these 2 are used in process of glycosis and total we got 36 atps.
