Why do fireflies glow at night?
The characteristic green yellow glow of a firefly is the result of a chemical reaction that takes place in the insect's abdomen.
They glow mainly to attract mates and also to send signals as a way of communication. Each firefly has its particular pattern. They also glow to lure their prey and at the same time to avoid predators. Fireflies are filled with a nasty tasting chemical called 'lucibufagins'.
