Answer:

The various dimensions of power sharing as identified in a modern democratic system are:

a. Power shared between the organs of the government- It is the horizontal distribution of power, where power is shared among the different organs of the government that is the Legislature, Executive and the Judiciary. Under this arrangement powers, jurisdiction of each organ is clearly defined. This ensures the principle of separation of power , however to ensure that no organ misuse its powers there is a system of checks and balances.

b. Governments at different levels- This is the vertical power sharing arrangement where their exist two or more levels of government , where power is shared between the central and state governments. For example , federal system in our country. This refers to decentralised dimension of power sharing aimed to involve people at the grass root level making democracy more inclusive.

c. Social groups- Power is also shared among different social groups to accommodate diverse interests and to give them representation. One can give example of a Community government in Belgium.

d. Power among Political parties and groups- Power is also shared among parties, groups who influence the decision making process. Parties provide choice to the people to choose from, similarly coalition governments have ensured adequate power sharing among different parties representing diverse section of society. Pressure groups also influence the decision making process of the government.
