Given: The following data are- 410-419 420-429 430-439 440-449 450-459 460–469 470_479 Weight in gms.:

No. of apples: 14 20 42 54 45 18 7

To find: We have to find the mean and median.

Solution:

The following data of weight in gram is given as-

410,419, 420,429, 430,439, 440,449, 450,459, 460,469, 470,479

The total numbers are 14.

So, mean will be-

 \frac{410 + 419 + 420 + 429 + 430 + 439 + + 440 + 449 + 450 + 459 + 460 + 469 + 470 + 479}{14} = 444.5

Arranging the numbers in ascending order we get-

410,419, 420,429, 430,439, 440,449, 450,459, 460,469, 470,479

Median will be-

Median will be-(440+449)/2

Median will be-(440+449)/2(889)/2

Median will be-(440+449)/2(889)/2=444.5

For second data, the number of apples is-

14 20 42 54 45 18 7

The total numbers are 7.

So, mean will be-

 \frac{14 + 20 + 42 + 54 + 45 + 18 + 7}{7} = 28.57

Arranging the numbers in ascending order we get-

7,14,18,20,42,45,54

The median will be 20.
