Meiosis occurs only once in a life cycle.

Explanation:

Meiosis occurs in the cell that is responsible for the formation of gametes. Meiosis occurs in two steps:

1. Meiosis 1

This phase can also be termed as reduction phase. The number of chromosomes in a cell is 2n, after undergoing meiosis one the chromosome number is reduced to n. This happens to ensure the restoration of 2n after the fertilization of gametes. Two daughter cells are produced with n number of chromosomes.

2. Meiosis 2

This is like a mitotic division. The two daughter cells that are generated will be divided into 4 daughter cells with n chromosomes each. As a result, by the completion of meiosis 2, the total number of daughter cells produced is four. Because the number of chromosomes remains constant, this division is identical to any other mitotic division.
