total distance covered by the cat = perimeter of the room + length of the room

D = 2(8+6)+√(64+36)

D = 28+10

D = 38 m

the cat first runs all around.

therefore,

perimeter of the room= 2( l+b)

= 2× 14

= 28m

now we know diagonal= hypotenuse.

therefore by Pythagoras theorem,

8^2+ 6^2= hyp2

64+ 36 = hyp2

100= hyp2

therefore,

hypotenuse= diagonal= √100

= 10m

Therefore,

total distance yravelled by cat= perimeter+ diagonal= 28+10= 38m

hence, total distance coveted by cat= 38m

hope it helps
