Here, in triangle CBD,
Angle CBD+ Angle CDB= a

In triangle ABD,
Angle ABD+ Angle ADB= b
Adding both, we get
Angle CBD+ Angle ABD+ Angle CDB+ Angle ADB= a+b
But Angle CBD+ Angle ABD= x and Angle CDB+ Angle ADB= y
Therefore,
x+y= a+b
