Given:

  • Volume of gas occupied at 0°C = 3L
  • Temperature of gas 1 = 0°C
  • Pressure is constant

To find:

  • Volume of same gas at -20°C

Solution:

Using Charles law

V1/T1 = V2/T1

Where

V1 : Volume of gas 1 = 3L

T1 : temperature of gas 1 = 0°C = 273K

V2 : volume of gas 2 = ?

T2 : Temperature of gas 2 = -20°C = 253K

Substituting the values we have

→ 3/273 = V2/253

→ 3(253)/273 = V2

→ 759/273 = V2

V2 = 2.78 L

Hence ,volume becomes 2.78 L
