Diagram of the electric field lines for a system of two positive point charges.

Question:--

1) Mention the SI unit of electric field.

Answer:-

The derived SI units for the electric field are volts per meter (V/m), exactly equivalent to newtons per coulomb (N/C).

SI unit: volts per meter (V/m).

2) Define dipole.

Answer:-

In electromagnetism, there are two kinds of dipoles: An electric dipole deals with the separation of the positive and negative charges found in any electromagnetic system.

Example:

A simple example of this system is a pair of electric charges of equal magnitude but opposite sign separated by some typically small distance.

3) What is the net charge on a dipole?

Answer:-

An electric dipole is a type of electric charge distribution which contains two point charges, one positive and one negative. The two charges in a dipole have the same magnitude, so the net charge of the dipole is zero. An electric dipole is a combination of two point charges having equal magnitude but opposite signs.

4) Draw the electric field lines for a system of two positive point charges.

Answer:-

The field lines around a system of two equal positive charges (q, q) shows mutual repulsion between two charges.

[Note that: Diagram show on the above]

5) When will be the torque acting on the electric dipole is maximum and minimum?

Answer:-

Maximum:

Torque is maximum when dipole is held perpendicular to the field

Minimum:

Torque is minimum refers to zero torque. This is possible only when the angle is 90 or perpendicular.

Cheers.
