Gypsum is nothing  but a salt.[caso₄.2 H₂o].This means that it contains 2 molecules of water of crystallisation

         When we heat it at 100 degree celsius then it loses its water of crystallisation and turns to hemi hydrated calcium sulphate [plaster of paris]
