Tyndall effect works on the principle that light beams scatter due to the presence of large colloidal particles in the solution which separate the light however in a true solution the particles are not as large enough to scatter the light particles, that's why Tyndall effect is not seen in true solution.

Constituent substances of a colloid cannot be separated by ordinary filtration because the size of the particles in a colloid (or colloidal solution) is bigger than those in a true solution but smaller than those in suspension. It is between 1 nm to 100 nm in diameter. The size of ordinary filter paper is more than 100 nm due to which colloidal particles are passed through the pores of a filter paper. Due to which, we prefer to use ultrafilter paper so that, filtration of colloidal particles takes place easily.
