Sound lasts in our ear for 0.1 sec.
Speed of sound is 300m/s.
300*0.1=30m
So, sound must travel at least 30m so that we can hear the echo clearly.
As sound has to bounce back from the surface, the minimum distance required for an echo is 30/2= 15m
