Throughout the morning Lencho - who knew his fields intimately - had done nothing else but see the sky towards the north-east.

there can be multiple answers for this as I understand....

it can be that Lencho is felling Sad and Lonely... so he looked towards the sky...

or it can be that he is planning to do something great and big in life... which means he'll take a big step and his life can change..
