a. A train is moving with a velocity of 45km/hr. Calculate the distance traveled by it in 1 hr, 1 min, 1 second.

We have,

  • velocity of train= 45 km/h in m/s = 12.5 m/s

Time taken = 1 h 1 min 1 sec

  • 3600 + 60 + 1
  • 3661 sec

Now, distance traveled will be;

  • Time × speed
  • 3661 × 12.5
  • 45,762.5 m

b. A object P is moving with a constant velocity for 5 mins. Another object Q is moving with changing velocity for 5 mins. Out of these two objects, which one has acceleration?

Object Q is moving with acceleration because, acceleration is the change in velocity and as the velocity is changing in object Q therefore, it is moving with acceleration.

c. Can an object be accelerated if it is moving with constant speed? If yes, explain giving

Yes it is possible as in the case of a body moving in a circular path, its speed remains constant but it direction changes continously now speed is not associated with direction but velocity is, and acceleration is change in velocity. Therefore, we can say that an object be accelerated even if it is moving with constant speed.

d. (1) When do you say that an object has positive acceleration?

When its speed is increasing, or simply when the final velocity is higher than the initial velocity.

(2) When do you say that an object has negative acceleration?

When its velocity is decreasing, i.e, the initial velocity is higher than the final.

e. State which of the following situations are possible and give an example of each of these: (1) A body moving with constant acceleration but with zero velocity.

  • This situation is possible, e.g when we throw a ball from a height at a point its velocity will be zero but the acceleration will happen on constant rate.

(2) A body moving horizontally with acceleration in vertical direction.

  • This is possible, as in the case of car moving on road, we are moving horizontally but in vertical direction.

(3) A body moving with a constant speed in an accelerated motion.

  • Yes this is possible, as in the case of a circular path.
