1) because it was the first struggle and war to achieve independence.
2)according to the doctrine of lapse heirs adopted without the consent of the east India company, could inherit only the private property of the deceased ruler ,and not his territory ,which would come under the company's rule.

this principle was also applied to take away the titles and pensions of rulers of States.this created discontent among rulers and people.

1. because it was the first revolt in which all the common people, the peasants, the artisans, the kings, the soldiers, The Hindus and the Muslims, all fought together for a common aim, i.e. to wind back their lost independence.
2. This was a policy of annexation introduced by lord Dalhousie. It meant that if a ruler of a dependent state died without a natural heir, the state passed on to the English Company.
3. because the Indian rulers who were subjected to this doctorine had to lose their kingdoms. Hence, the revolted against the British.
4. Satara and Jhansi.
5. Nana Saheb was the adopted son of Peshwa Baji Rao II.  His annual pension was stopped because the British refused to recognize him as the legitimate heir to the throne as he was adopted. He was subjected to the Doctrine of Lapse. 
 6. The British abolished the given reform in 1829.
7.They introduced western education, abolished sati, introduced widow remarriage act, etc.
