The first reaction is easy. See its product. The O directly bonded to benzene has lone pairs and thus it can give positive mesomeric effect, while for other ring, the carbonyl group performs negative mesomeric. We know nitration is an electrophilic substitution, positive mesomeric promotes the attack of NO2 at ortho and para position. Since ortho position will be sterically hindered, it attacks at para position.
This is the concept taught to me. Is the answer third option?
