Let three no. are x-1,x,x+1
Sum of the numbers 3x >45 but 3x < 54.................(1)
The condition give in equation (1) is satisfied if 3x=48 or 3x=51
If required sum is 48, x=16, the numbers are 15, 16, 17
If required sum is 51, x= 17, then numbers are 16, 17, 18

So,
Three consecutive whole numbers
= x + (x+1) + (x+2)

So,
45 < x + (x + 1 ) + (x + 2) < 54
45 < 3x + 3 < 54
Subtracting 3
(45-3) < (3x + 3 - 3) < (54-3)
42 < 3x < 51
Dividing 3
42/3 < 3x/3 < 51/3
14 < x < 17
So,x is greater than 14 and smaller than 17
So, x can be = 15,16
i.e
14 < 15 < 16 < 17
If
x = 15
x+1 = 15 + 1 = 16
x+2= 15 + 2 = 17
if
