Sahara


It is the largest low-latitude hot

desert in the world. It is the third largest desert after Antarctica and the

Arctic. Its area is comparable to the area of the United States or China. It

covers a large part of North Africa. It mainly has rocky plateaus. Sand dunes

form only a minor part. Many of the sand dunes are more than 180 metres high.




Ladakh


It is a cold desert. It is located in Jammu and Kashmir and extends from the Kunlun mountain range to the main Great Himalayas to the south. It is the highest plateau in the state. It is very sparsely populated. It is known for its mountain beauty and culture. The mountain ranges in this area were formed by the folding of the Indian plate into the more stationary Eurasian Plate. Frequent earthquakes occur in the region.
