Harris, one of the three friends, is a big glutton. He
believes that eating regularly keeps the diseases in check. He is often poked fun at, for over eating by
Jerome and George. He is also a boastful fellow - boasts of his abilities at sea. He is fond of wine
- finds out a place to get quality wine. He loves to take the burden of everything to himself and put it
on the backs of other people later on. He reminds Jerome of Uncle Podger. He is also quite good at
poking fun and irritating others. He is a bad packer and adds a lot of funny element to the story.

Jerome K. Jerome feels that a feeling of contentment after a meal should be there. Food gives you a good mood and helps you to do your work in a perfect manner. Jerome understands that when stomach groans with hunger, the brain stops functioning and all our mental faculties come to a standstill. He further adds that it is our stomach which dictates our emotions, passions and our ability to work and think. There is a feeling of generosity and forgiveness after a well digested meal as the organs work well after a satisfying meal. He feels that human beings are slaves of their stomach and they should take care of their diet.

Gulliver was leading a prisoner-like life in Lilliput because of his enormous size. But he won the favour of the king and the nobles because of his calm and decent behaviour. The king and the nobles granted him liberty on some conditions that whether there is war or peace, he was to warn the people two hours prior to his visit to their capital so that they could stay indoors, he was asked to walk carefully so as not to step on any animal or Lilliputian. He had to carry important message of the king whenever any need arose. He had to help the workmen in civil work, he had to confine his walks on the high roads and not in the fields and be an ally against the emperor’s enemies.
The emperor decided to release him on some conditions. A member of the imperial court, Skyresh Bolgolam, who was hostile towards Gulliver, was to lay down the conditions of his release. Gulliver took an oath to abide by the laws.

Brobdingnag was a peninsula having mountains three miles high on the north-east and a sea on the other side. It was inhabited by monstrous looking giants, twelve times the height of Gulliver. The size of the animals and the fruit were also big. Brobdingnag contained fifty one cities and about a hundred wall towns and a large number of villages. Brobdingnag was really a land of wonders to Gulliver. He was over awed by the hugeness of its inhabitants be it the men, animals or birds-all seemed to be giant in size. Although all the time, Gulliver had to be careful about his safety yet there were some exceptionally good people who took great care of him like Glumdalclitch the farmer's daughter, the King and the Queen. He faced many encounters with the birds and the animals which were huge in size. His most frightening incident was when a giant monkey mistook him for a baby monkey and carried him to the roof holding. Brobdingnag was really a wonderful place for Gulliver as it brought everyday a new, strange and wonderful experience before him.
