'Do We Require Homes For The Aged In India?'
A very good morning to jury members, friends and fellow opponents. My name is Manoj and today I am going to speak for the motion on the 'Do we require homes for the aged in India?'. Owing strong allegiance to what my fellow opponents said, old age homes do provide food and shelter, with some medical assistance, but do they also offer and substitute the love and care parents expect from their children? My answer to this question would be a big NO. Old age homes are institutions that can aid the people in their old age but never guarantee a happy life.
The idea of old age homes was alien to us as India has been proud country which followed the joint family system, where elderly were treated with great regard and respect. They were considered the root of the family. To witness children depriving their parents of the basic right to stay with them in the old age is disheartening. They constitute as an inseparable part of the family and shouldn't be send to old age homes even in the worst case scenario.
People of old age are not a burden but a treasure to be cherished and preserved. I strongly believed that the need for old age homes in the Indian society is futile.
