i) Find x + 1/x

let x + 1/x = z

Squaring on both sides we have

(x + 1/x)² = z²

x² + 1/x² + 2 = z²

29 + 2 = z²

z² = 31

z = ±√(31)

So, x + 1/x = ±√(31)

ii) Find x - 1/x

let x - 1/x = y

Squaring on both sides we have

(x -1/x)² = y²

y² = x² + 1/x² - 2

y² = 29 - 2

y² = 27

y = ±3√3

So, x - 1/x = ±3√3
