Let the number of boys be x and number of girls be y.

According to the question:

Case -1

x + y = 60 ....(1)

also,

y = 2x ....(2)

Solving (1) and (2)

x + y + 2x - y = 60

3x = 60

x = 20

Number of boys = 20

Number of girls = 2×20 = 40

Now,

Raju's rank = 17

students till 17th rank = 17

Num. of boys = 17 - (1 + 9)

Num. of boys = 17 - 10

Num. of boys ahead of raju = 7

boys left after raju = 20 - (7 + 1)

boys left after raju = 20 - 8

Answer = 12

Option C is correct.
