(1)

Let,

  • Length of the rectangle = x cm
  • Breadth of the rectangle = y cm

By the given conditions,

x = (3/2) y .....(i)

2 (x + y) = 100

or, x + y = 50

or, (3/2) y + y = 50 [ by (i) ]

or, (3y + 2y)/2 = 50

or, 5y = 100

or, y = 20

Then, x = (3/2) × 20

or, x = 3 × 10

or, x = 30

Therefore, the length of the rectangle is 30 cm and the breadth is 20 cm.

(2)

Let,

  • Length of the rectangle = x cm
  • Breadth of the rectangle = y cm

By the given conditions,

2 (x + y) = 20

or, x + y = 10 .....(i)

x - y = 4

or, x = y + 4 .....(ii)

Putting x = y + 4 in (i), we get

y + 4 + y = 10

or, 2y = 10 - 4 = 6

or, y = 3

Putting y = 3 in (ii), we get

x = 3 + 4

or, x = 7

Therefore, the length of the rectangle is 7 cm and the breadth is 3 cm.
