Let, the price of a cupboard is Rs. x and that of a table is Rs. y

By the given conditions,

  • 3x = 2y + 4500 .....(i)
  • 2x + 3y = 9500 .....(ii)

Multiplying (ii) by 3, we get

3 (2x) + 9y = 28500

or, 2 (3x) + 9y = 28500

or, 2 (2y + 4500) + 9y = 28500

or, 4y + 9000 + 9y = 28500

or, 13y = 28500 - 9000 = 19500

or, y = 1500

Putting y = 1500 in (i), we get

3x = 2 (1500) + 4500

or, 3x = 3000 + 4500 = 7500

or, x = 2500

Therefore, the price of a cupboard is Rs. 2500 and that of a table is Rs. 1500

(6)

Let, the daily wages of a mason is Rs. x and that of a carpenter is Rs. y

By the given conditions,

  • 5x + 4y = 640 .....(i)
  • 7x + 3y = 740 .....(ii)

Multiplying (i) by 3 and (ii) by 4, we get

  • 15x + 12y = 1920
  • 28x + 12y = 2960

On subtraction, we get

28x - 15x + 12y - 12y = 2960 - 1920

or, 13x = 1040

or, x = 80

Putting x = 80 in (i), we get

5 (80) + 4y = 640

or, 400 + 4y = 640

or, 4y = 640 - 400 = 240

or, y = 60

Therefore, the daily wages of a mason is Rs. 80 and that of a carpenter is Rs. 60
