GIVEN

x² +y² =9x

2+y²

=9 and xy = 8

TO FIND

the value of (x + y) = ?

∴ (x+y)² =x² +y² +2xy(x+y)²= x²+y² +2xy

PUT

x²+y²=9x² + y²

=9 and xy = 8

WE GET

⇒ (x+y)²(x+y)²

= 9 + 2(8)

⇒ (x+y)²(x+y)²

= 9 + 16

⇒ (x+y)²(x+y)²

= 25 = 5²5²

⇒ x + y = 5

∴ The value of x + y = 5

Thus, the value of x + y is equal to 5.
