i) 2x + 3y = 5 ...(1)

3x + 4y = 6 ...(2)

Multiplying (1) by 3 & (2) by 2

=> 6x + 9y = 15

=> 6x + 8y = 12

- - -

______________

0 + y = 3

=> y = 3

Placing y = 3 in (1)

=> 2x + 3(3) = 5

=> 2x = 5 - 9

=> x = -2

ii) x + y = 7 ...(1)

2x + y = 9 ... (2)

From (1)

x = 7 - y

Substituting in (2)

=> 2(7-y) + y = 9

=> 14 - 2y + y = 9

=> 14 - y = 9

=> y = 14 - 9

=> y = 5

Placing y = 5 in (2)

=> 2x + 5 = 9

=> 2x = 4

=> x = 2

[i]

2x + 3y = 5

3x + 4y = 6

3 [2x + 3y = 5]

2 [3x + 4y = 6]

6x + 9y = 15

6x + 8y = 12

+6x + 9y = 15

-6x - 8y = -12

y = 3

2x + 3y = 5

2x + 3*3 = 5

2x + 9 = 5

2x = 5-9

x = -4/2

x = -2

[ii]

x+y = 7

2x+y = 9

x = 7-y

2(7-y) + y = 9

14-2y + y = 9

14-y = 9

-y = 9-14

y = 5

x = 7-y

= 7-5

x = 2
