Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. It is a matter of great pride for me to stand before you and speak on the national symbols of India.
The majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, with its regal coat of fur, is the national animal of India. The giant of the forest, the Elephant, is our national heritage animal. The venomous King cobra is our national reptile. The Indian Peacock, with attractive colours on its plume, and grace in its walk, is our national bird. Our national aquatic animal is the little-known Dolphin.
The Indian Banyan Tree, with its wide spread of foliage is our national tree. The beautiful Lotus, offered to our Gods and Goddesses, is our national flower. King of fruits, Mango, is the national fruit.
Ganga or Ganges is our national river. India's oath of allegiance is the National Pledge. We follow the Saka calender as our national calender and the Ahoka Chakra, with Satyameva Jayate written at the foot of the lions, as our national symbol. The national anthem and the national song are Jana Gana and Vande Mataram respectively.
Hockey continues to be our national game, even though cricket is today the more popular game across India.
Last, but not the least, with its new-found energy Indian Rupee is our national currency and it has become better known today with its unique symbol.
Thank you.
