Tectonic plates:

  • The crust of the earth is comprises some major and some minor plates.
  • It is believed that, once upon a time, land was a single landmass which is known as the Gondwana Land.
  • But, later the movement of the tectonic plates resulted in folding and faulting.
  • This way, the land converged (came closer) and diverged (moved away).
  • The converging of plates created mountains and the diverging plates created continents and islands.
  • The pressure also leads to volcanic activity and earthquakes.
  • Tectonic plates have continuous movement but we can't notice it.
