Nest is the home of a bird. Just like we need shelter(house) to protect ourselves, birds too, build nests using dry leaves, grass, mud, etc to lay eggs. ... Birds build nest so that they can lay and hatch eggs and take care of their young ones.

Birds use their nest because of the following reasons:

1. Just as we need shelter, birds also needs shelter and hence they build their own nest with the help of straw, grass, twigs and leaves.

2. They also build their own nest for laying their eggs. Birds need a safe place to lay eggs so that the babies come out of the egg safely.

3. Also, building nest is necessary for plants to protect their babies from enemies and prey animals.

4. Many birds build their nest on the tree and some birds build nest also on the ground. Birds like duck and peacock are seen building nests on the ground and not on tree.

5. A bird named as tailor bird uses their beak to stitch leaves to make nest.

6. An exception is found in Cuckoo bird where it does not build nest but lays eggs in the nest of a crow.
