Answer:

Motion refers to the movement or the process of moving an object from one point to another. Definition wise, it is said to be change in a displacement experienced by an object in a certain time interval. Objects which move on human contact or due to natural forces are all classified as motion.

Example of Human Contact Motion: Moving a table.

Example of Natural Motion: Movement of Earth around Sun.

There are different types of motion. But all are classified under 3 main types namely:

Linear or Translatory Motion

Rotational Motion

Periodic Motion

Linear or Translatory motion:

This refers to the motion of objects which travel in a particular direction at a fixed interval of time. E.g. A car on the road exhibits a Linear Motion. A light ray from the bulb exhibits rectilinear motion, which is a type of linear motion.

Rotational Motion:

Some objects move around a fixed point or along an axis. They might move in circular motion (or) elliptical motion, etc. But there is a center point or axis around which it rotates. E.g. The Earth rotates around the Sun. Here, Sun is the center point around which earth rotates. A fan also exhibits rotational motion, with it's center point attached to the wall.

Periodic Motion:

Objects which tend to move in a particular pattern with respect to time are said to be exhibiting periodic motion. That is, they exhibit motion at fixed intervals of time. E.g. The seconds hand of a watch moves in a periodic motion.

Objects which move in a particular pattern but are not periodic are termed as non-periodic motion. Generally they are objects moving in a to-fro manner. This is called as oscillatory motion. E.g. Movement of Bob in a pendulum, Movement of Swing in a park.
