Answer:

To find —

________________

a) Speed in centimeters per second.

b) Speed in meters per second.

c) Speed in kilometers per hour.

Formula applied:—

____________________

speed =  \frac{distance \: travelled}{time \: taken}

SOLUTION :

a) In order to calculate the speed in centimeter per second we should convert the given distance of 3 kilometers into centimeters and the given time of 5 minutes into second. Please note that 1 kilometer has 1000 meters and 1 meter has 100 centimeters. Now,

distance \: travelled = 3km

 = 3  \times 1000m

 = 3 \times 1000 \times 100cm

 = 300000cm

time \: taken = 5 \: minutes

 = 5 \times 60 \: seconds

 = 300 \: s

We know that,

speed =  \frac{distance \: travelled}{time \: taken}

 =  \frac{300000 \: cm}{300 \: s}

 = 1000 \: cm \: per \: second

Thus , the speed of scooterist is 1000 centimeters per second.

b) In order to express the speed in meters per second we should convert the given distance of 3 kilometers into meters and the given time of 5 minutes into seconds . Thus, in this case :-

distance = 3km

 = 3 \times 1000m

 = 3000m

time \: taken = 5 \: minutes

 = 5 \times 60 \: seconds

 = 300 \: s

Now,

speed =  \frac{distance \: travelled}{time \: taken}

 =  \frac{3000m}{300s}

 = 10 {ms}^{ - 1}

So, the speed of scooterist is 10 meters per second.

c) And, finally in order to calculate the speed in kilometers per hour, we should express the given distance in kilometers (which is already so) , and the given time in hours. So, in this case :-

distance \: travelled = 3 \: km

time \: taken = 5 \: minutes

 =  \frac{5}{60} hours

 = 0.083 \: h

We know that,

speed =  \frac{distance \: travelled}{time \: taken}

 =  \frac{3 \: km}{0.083 \: h}

 = 36 \: km \: per \: hour

Thus, the speed of scooterist is 36 kilometers per hour.
