The Earth is tilted on its axis. This tilting of the Earth on its axis is known as the inclination of the Earth’s axis.

It is because of the tilted axis of the Earth that days and nights are of varying lengths in different parts of the Earth. Four main seasons are also caused due to the inclination of the Earth. If the axis of the Earth was vertical, then days and nights would be of equal lengths at all places, and the Earth would experience only one season throughout the year.
