People used to leave their books and manuscripts in the monasteries. So they can be preserved in the hands of the monks. People used to preserve the knowledge, so they left the books in the monastery libraries. As we know in monasteries many travellers used to stay during medieval period, so different people can we read the books and acquire the knowledge from them. The primarily reason is for the preservation of knowledge. So people use to leave their books and manuscripts that is handwritten notes in the monasteries.

St. Ambrose was Ambrose of Milan or the Bishop of Milan ( a city in Italy ). During 4th century, he was a preacher in western part of Christian church. He is the Patron saint. He is also an excellent leader.
