Additional Information:-

The blanket of air that surrounds the Earth is known as the atmosphere.

It is made up of a mixture of gases.

There are five distinct layers of the atmosphere:-

  • Troposphere:- It is the densest layer of the atmosphere. It contains the air that we breathe. It also traps terrestrial heat. All changes in the atmosphere, including rain, snow, fog and storm, occur in the atmosphere due to the presence of water vapour.

  • Stratosphere:- It lies above the troposphere and provides ideal condition flying for aircraft. The ozone layer also exists here. Ozone is vital for our survival as it absorbs the harmful ultraviolet radiations. (UV)

  • Mesosphere:- It is the coldest layer of the atmosphere. This later us vital because the meteors cool and break down here due to the frictional force.

  • Thermosphere:- This is the layer where Auroras (Polar lights) happen. It is the hottest layer if the atmosphere.

  • Exosphere:- It is the uppermost layer of the atmosphere. It is thousands of kilometers thick and eventually merges with interplanetary space.
