Let the number of arrows arjun had = 'x'.

(i)

Given that with half the arrows, he cut down the arrows thrown by Bheesm.

⇒ So, the number of arrows used to cut down the arrows of Bheesm = (x/2).

(ii)

Given that with six other arrows, he killed the rath driver of Bheesm.

⇒ So, the number of arrows used to kill the rath driver = 6.

(iii)

Given that one arrow each,he knocked down the rath, flag and bow of Bheesm.

⇒ So, the number of arrows used to knock rath, flag and bow = 3.

(iv)

Finally with one more than 4 times the square root of arrows he laid Bheesm unconscious.

⇒ 4√x + 1.

Now,

The total number of arrows carried by angry arjun :

⇒ x = (x/2) + 6 + 3 + 4√x + 1

⇒ 2x = x + 12 + 6 + 8√x + 2

⇒ 2x = x + 20 + 8√x

⇒ x = 20 + 8√x

⇒ x - 20 = 8√x

On squaring both sides, we get

⇒ (x - 20)^2 = (8√x)^2

⇒ x^2 + 400 - 40x = 64x

⇒ x^2 - 104x + 400 = 0

⇒ x^2 - 4x - 100x + 400 = 0

⇒ x(x - 4) - 100(x - 4) = 0

⇒ (x - 4)(x - 100) = 0

⇒ x = 100, 4{neglect - because he used more number of arrows}.

⇒ x = 100.

Therefore, the number of arrows Arjun had = 100.

Hope it helps!
