Given :
osmotic pressure of CaCl = 0.605 M
osmotic pressure of urea = 0.245 M
To find :
The van't hoff factor of CaCl .
Solution :
Osmatic pressure , π = i * C * R * T
where , C is concentration
R is gas constant
T is temperature
and, i is van't hoff factor
for urea,
0.245 = 1 * C * R * T = C * R * T .....(i)
as the concentration and the temperature is same , for CaCl ,
0.605 = i * 0.245 {from (i) }
=> i = 2.469
The van't hoff factor of CaCl is 2.469 .
