Let us take numerator be x and denominator be y.

If we add 1 to the numerator we get 3/4 , so

x+1 3

----- = ----

y 4

4(x+1)=3y

4x+4=3y

4x-3y+4=0 --------(I)

and if we add 2 to the denominator we get 1/2, so

x 1

------- = ----

y+2 2

2x=1(y+2)

2x=y+2

2x-y-2=0 ---------(2)

Now, solving both the equations:

4x-3y+4=0

x=3y-4/4 -------(3)

putting this eq. (3) in eq. (2), we get:

2(3y-4/4)-y-2=0

6y-4/2-y-2=0

12y-4-2y-4=0

10y-8=0

10y=8

y= 4/5 -------(4)

Now putting eq (4) in eq (3):

x=3y-4/4

x=3(4/5)-4/4

x=12/5-4/4

x=48-20/20

x=28/20

x=7/5 ----------(5)

Now, the required fraction is:

x 7/5

---- = -------

y 4/5

x 7

---- = -----

y 4

hence, the required fraction is 7/4.

hope it helps :)
