A. Compounds made of hydrogen and carbon are called hydrocarbons.

E.g. CH4 ,methane

B. Saturated compounds are compounds in which carbon atoms are bonded to one another by single bonds. E.g. CH3 - CH2 - CH3 (C3 H8, propane) and CH3 - CH3 (C2H6, ethane)

Unsaturated hydrocarbons have carbon atoms that are bonded to one another by either double or triple bonds.

E.g. CH2 = CH2 (C2H4 , ethene) and CH ≡ CH, (C2H2, ethyne).

C.

1. Methanol

2. Ethanal

3. Propanone

4. Ethanoic acid
