Question 1 :

The difference of an integer p and (-8) is 3 . Find the value of p.

Solution :

For this question we would frame an equation following the question. Then after solving the equation framed we would get the required value of p.

Difference of an integer p and (-8) is 3

\sf\therefore\:p-(-8)=3

Multiplying the signs and removing brackets

\sf\implies\:p+8=3

Transposing +8 to RHS it becomes -8

\sf\implies\:p=3-8

\small{\underline{\boxed{\mathrm{\implies\:p=(-5)}}}}

Verification :

Plugging the value of p as (-5) -

\sf\:p-(-8)=3

\sf\dashrightarrow\:(-5)-(-8)=3

\sf\dashrightarrow\:(-5)+8=3

\sf\dashrightarrow\:-5+8=3

\sf\dashrightarrow\:3=3

\bf\dashrightarrow\:LHS=RHS

Hence Verified !~

Question 2 :

The sum of two integers is 93. If one of them is -59. Find the other.

Solution :

Again for this question we would frame an equation following the question. Then after solving the equation framed we would get the required other number.

Sum of two integers is 93

  • Let two integer be x and y

\sf\therefore\:x+y=93

Again one integer is given as -59 , so we get

  • Let x be -59

\sf\therefore\:(-59)+y=93

Solving the equation

\sf\implies\:-59+y=93

Transposing -59 to RHS it becomes +59

\sf\implies\:y=93+59

\small{\underline{\boxed{\mathrm{\implies\:y=152}}}}

Verification :

Plugging the value of x as (-59) and y as 152 -

\sf\:x+y=93

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:(-59)+152=93

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:-59+152=93

\sf\twoheadrightarrow\:93=93

\bf\dashrightarrow\:LHS=RHS

Hence Verified !~

Question 3 :

What should be divided by (-7) to obtain 12 ?

Solution :

Similarly we would frame an equation assuming the dividend to be x. Solving the equation framed we would get our final answer.

\sf\therefore\:\frac{x}{-7}=12

Cross multiplying

\sf\implies\:x = 12 \times (-7)

\small{\underline{\boxed{\mathrm{\implies\:x=(-84)}}}}

Verification :

Plugging the value of x as (-84) -

\sf\:\frac{x}{-7}=12

\sf\to\:\frac{-84}{-7}=12

\sf\to\:\frac{\cancel{-}84}{\cancel{-}7}=12

\sf\to\:\frac{84}{7}=12

\sf\to\:\cancel{\frac{84}{7}}=12

\sf\to\:12=12

\bf\dashrightarrow\:LHS=RHS

Hence Verified !~

Question 4 :

Simplify : ( -26 ) × 72 + ( -26 ) × 28

Solution :

We would follow BODMAS to simplify the given equation. BODMAS stands for :

  • Calculating terms inside brackets at first, then of , then after division , which would be followed by multiplication, addition and subtraction.

\sf\:( -26 ) \times 72 + ( -26 ) \times 28

\sf\implies\:( -1872 ) + ( -26 ) \times 28

\sf\implies\:( -1872 ) + ( -728 )

\sf\implies\:-1872 -728

\small{\underline{\boxed{\mathrm{\implies\:(-2600)}}}}

Answer:

let first integer = p

second integer = -8

their difference is = 3

p - (-8) = 3

p + 8 = 3

p = 3 - 8

p = -5

2). let first integer = X

second integers = -59

their sum is = 93

X + (-59) = 93

X - 59 = 93

X = 93 + 59

X = 152

3). let the number is = X

X divided by = -7

we get = 12

X ÷ -7 = 12

X = 12 × -7

X = -84

when

-84 ÷ -7

= 12.
