Given:

Distance of star from earth = 8.33 light minutes

Asking:

To justify this statement and find the distance in metre.

Solution:

Distance of star from earth = 8.33 light minutes

Speed of light = 3 × 10⁸m/s

As the speed is in m/s the distance should also be in seconds.

So,

Time in minutes = 8.33 light minutes

Time in seconds = 8.33 × 60 seconds

= 499.8 seconds

Therefore:

Formula to find distance,

Distance = Speed × Time

Distance = 3 × 10⁸m/s × 499.8 seconds

Distance = 149940000000 m

Hence,

Distance = 1.5 × 10¹¹m
