On burning the fuels such as coal petrol and diesel harmful gases like a SO2 and NO2 are released, these gases get mixed with the water of rain and makes the rain acidic due to the formation of Sulphuric and nitric acid. In this way it leads to acid rain.

Harmful effects of acid rain:-

Acid rain can affect the buildings and monuments. it has also affected the Taj Mahal. it also affects flora and fauna.
