the ladder forms a right angled triangle with the building and ground.

in the triangle the length of the ladder is the hypotenuse.

height of the wall
= √[(length of ladder)²-(distance from the foot of building)²
= √[(41)²-(9²)]
= √[1681-81]
= √[1600]
= 40

The height of the building is 40m.
