As triangle ABC  is an right angled triangle its height is AC.

so the area of the triangle is 1/2 * b * h

= 1/2*5*12

= 30cm

AD

1/2*13*AD= 30

AD= 60/13 cm

To recheck the answer

1/2*13*60/13=30cm
