Hi ,
x + 1/x = 2 1/2
( x² + 1 )/ x = 5/2
2( x² + 1 ) = 5x
2x² + 2 - 5x = 0
2x² - 5x + 2 = 0
2x² - 4x - x + 2 = 0
2x ( x - 2 ) - 1( x - 2 ) = 0
( x - 2 ) ( 2x - 1 ) = 0
Therefore ,
x - 2 = 0 or 2x - 1 = 0
x = 2 or x = 1/ 2
