2. He tore out a reed, the great god Pan, From the deep cool bed of the river : The limpid water turbidly ran, ... Here the speaker witnesses the “great god” tearing out “a reed from the “deep cool bed of the river.” He is disrupting the peace of the ecosystem in a very violent way.
