Step-by-step explanation:

Total length of cloth =

5 \frac{5}{7}  =  \frac{40}{7} m

Length of cloth that was cut =

3 \frac{9}{11}  =  \frac{42}{11} m

To find the length of cloth that remain = 40/7 - 42/11

=

1 \frac{69}{77} m

Given :-

Total measurement of cloth :- {\tt 5 \dfrac{5}{7}} m

Measurement of cloth cut off :- {\tt 3 \dfrac{9}{21}} m

To Find :-

Measurement of cloth remaining.............

Solution :-

To find the measurement of cloth remaining, we should subtract the total measurement and measurement of cloth used...............

Measurement of cloth remaining :-

{ \tt \longrightarrow 5 \dfrac{5}{7} - 3 \dfrac{9}{21}}

Convert them into improper fractions so that the calculation becomes easier.............

{\tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{40}{7} - \dfrac{72}{21}}

Convert them into like fractions by taking the LCM of the denominators i.e, 7 and 21.

LCM of 7 and 21 is 21.

{\tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{40 \times 3}{7 \times 3} - \dfrac{72}{21}}

{\tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{120}{21} - \dfrac{72}{21} = \dfrac{120 - 72}{21}}

{\tt \longrightarrow \dfrac{48}{21} = \boxed{\tt 2 \dfrac{6}{21}}}

\Huge\therefore The measurement of cloth remaining is {\tt 2 \dfrac{6}{21}} metres.
