x {}^{2}  + x {}^{2}  = 12 {}^{2}

2x {}^{2} = 144

x = 144 \div 2 \\  = 72

therefore \: side =  \sqrt{72}

As side = √72

We know that area of square

 = side {}^{2}

  = >      | \sqrt{72} |   {}^{2}

 = > 72  cm {}^{2}
