1. Respiration is considered as exothermic because in respiration ATP is released in the form of energy which is used by the body to perform metabolic functions.
2. Nitrogen dioxide ($NO_{2}$).
3. The nitrogen preserves the freshness of the chips, prevents combustion, and creates sufficient cushioning during shipping so the chips don't get crushed.

1. Respiration is an exothermic process because in respiration Carbon dioxide present in food breaks down to form glucose. This glucose combines with Oxygen in the cells of our body and releases high amount of energy which produces heat.
2. The brown gas produced during thermal decomposition of lead nitrate is nitrogen oxide. Its formula is NO₂ .  
3. This is because nitrogen is an antioxidant. It prevents the chips from being oxidised and rancid which changes the taste and odour of the chips.
