Ammonium hydroxide is a solution of Ammonia in water. In this solution the NH₃ molecules are not strongly bonded to the water molecules, because water molecules are more attracted to there own kind (i.e. other water molecules) than NH₃ molecules. As the NH₃ molecules are not respected by water molecules, they are free and easily escape from the solution.
When Silver chloride is reacted with this aqueous solution, like NaCl, The ionic compound AgCl dissociates into Ag⁺ and Cl⁻. As the NH₃ molecules are free and need respect they readily combine with the Ag⁺ and Cl⁻ ions and put a show before those boasting water molecules.
Hence the reaction between Silver chloride and Ammonium hydroxide is :
AgCl + 2NH₄OH ------> [Ag(NH₃)₂]⁺Cl⁻ + 2H₂O
