x+y=BE given

x+y=7

x=7-y

now perimeter is

5+5+7+2(x-y)=27

2(7-2y)=10

-2y=-2

y=1

x=6 i hope it help any doubt

Step-by-step explanation:

perimeter of pentagon = sum of all sides

  • 27 = AB + BC + CD + DA + AE
  • 27 = 5 + x - y + x + y + x - y + 5
  • 27 - 10 = 3x - y
  • y = 3x - 17________(i)

we have ,

BCDE is a rectangle .( As BC perpendicular to CD and BC//CD and BC//DE)

so,

BE = CD

7 = x+ y ________(ii)

substituting the value of y from equation (i) in equation (ii) we get ,

7=x+3x-17

4x = 24

x = 6

Now ,

substituting the value of x in equation (i)

y = 3x - 17 =3 × 6 - 17 = 1

Therefore x=6 and y =1.
